IS KENNEL CLUB EXPANSION ON THE HORIZON?

While walking down my favorite path along the riverfront this evening around 7:15 PM, there were two gentlemen walking the perimeter of the dogtrack property facing the riverside with measuring wheels.  One was maneuvering the wheel while the other took notes. Now, I admit I don't know a lot about building, surveying, etc., but whenever I see a man wheeling around one of those measuring devices in this town lately, I get nervous cause I know  that something is fixin' to change! They weren't out there walking for exercise.

I know there were a lot of you out there who really believed our proponents on the town council and Mr. Korman when they emphatically stated with their poker faces that "no expansion to the OPKC would be required for the poker room", but that was yesterday - plans change in a New York minute, you know. Look how fast the legislature was able to change the needed consent for a poker room from the county to the Town of Orange Park council. And look how the fast the gambling industry has been able to change the rules on the poker room limits - the number of slots in Broward and on and on and on.  But, what the heck! We've already approved a poker room - what difference would a li'l expansion make? Right?

Just hope I don't lose my walking path while the expansion goes on. That is, if there is really going to be an expansion. Maybe I'm just becoming paranoid because of the way things in this town are changing.  Moosehaven buying up streets - building high rise condos? - hardcore gambling? Whew!

Throw up the flares, germanfrau. That's essentially what you're doing with little or no information.

Don't threaten civilians with what you think you know. Go the source, ask questions and figure out what's going on.

No one will take you seriously by providing innuendo.

We're smarter than that.

Elevate your game!

FYI, I related an eyewitnessed account of events. No where in my comments did I state an expansion was a sure thing - only a question. And, if you feel that you or any other civilian was "Threatened" by my comments, you might consider staying in bed and pulling the covers up over your head!

Reading your blog entitled "OPKC-Moving Beyond the decision", I understand where you are coming from. Since it was pointed out in a response to that blog that you  have friends close to the situation, and as you pointed out, "you're smarter than me", perhaps it would be easier for you to "go to the source", "ask questions" and then you can let us all know what YOU have "figured out".

The OPKK needs to expand.  I hope they build an extension.  This is just what Clay County needs to put us on the map.  No more of being a po cow town, now were getting big time.  :)

Don't know where you've been - but Clay County has already been on the map noted for the best schools and great quality of life. That's why all the development has occurred here - not because of the dogtrack.  The only notariety that will be given our town with more gambling will be that of a "honky tonk" town. You evidently live in some unincorporated part of Clay County, not Orange Park.

I have lived here many years and I have yet to see a "cow" and Orange Park has been called many things, but certainly never "PO".  I have a tax bill to prove that!

I do agree with your comment regarding Fitzgerald.

Germanfrau,

This County is near and dear to my heart. Over the years, I've worked on any number of different issues to support a quality of life in Clay County. I could, as you suggest, pull the covers over my head or I could research the issues you bring to the table and report on my findings. Quite frankly, the issue of an expanded poker room does not affect my quality of life so the burden of proof falls to the individuals raising the question and the people who's quality of life is affected.

If you want to know what Moosehaven is doing buying up property...ask them or go to the municipal entity of the Town of Orange Park. They have answers...not inuendos.

Germanfrau, when you bring us (the bloggers) qualified information, we will absolutely more than willingly respect  it.

But if you're vague...

Thanks for your reply. I take it from your comments that I can assume any blog you write about will be something that personally affects you.

Since you state any expansion of the poker room will not affect your quality of life, I can again assume you, like most of the other proponents who voiced support for the poker room, do not live in Orange Park, do not vote in Orange Park, do not pay Orange Park taxes, but do want to tell us residents what we should or should not allow in our community. You probably live in one of those gated communities whose only traffic through it are "like kind" residents who live there. and who share the feeling of "I'm for it, but not in my backyard", huh?

You're right about one thing. In this day in time, particularly in Orange Park, a concerned resident has to be an "investigative expert", knowledgeable on record research, and know how to jump through hoops etc., to find out what's going on in this town.  The problem is that most residents work and don't have the luxury or know-how  to spend hours trying to research records. That is why the "straw vote" on the poker room by the council got by without public notice. I feel that as a community service, the MyClaySun should publish the upcoming council meeting agendas.

In years past, we had reporters assigned to Orange Park who would do investigative reporting and report their results in the newspaper.  One would think that a buyout of Orange Circle by Moosehaven would have been newsworthy and would have "tweaked" a reporters curiousity. Or that news of high-rise condos on River Road would have been community news to be announced by the Town of Orange Park.  But, maybe reporters are not allowed to do that type of reporting these days. It most likely is considered "politically incorrect".

Just for you, key2life, I will make it my blogging endeavor to strive to become worthy to earn your and the other "seasoned" bloggers' "respect". However, in return I would ask that  you who do not live in Orange Park, respect our right to determine what in our community affects our "Quality of Life", and not to demean our feelings regarding decisions that in our judgment will affect it.

Germanfrau,

I think we may have crossed wires somewhere along the line. In other blog threads on this issue - which I don't want to rehash but want to communicate to you - I've said, repeatedly...I have NO business living in Keystone helping you make decisions about your quality of life in OP. I totally supported the legislation which drove that decision to local control: the voters of the Town of Orange Park. Only you know what's best for your town. Not Middleburg, not Lake Asbury or Oakleaf or Penney Farms.

If the shoe were on the other foot, I would not want someone from OP deciding for me if there should be an expansion of any business in Keystone (and yes I live inside city limits which constitutes one square mile) and not in a gated community.

I want you to make an informed decision, Germanfrau. I want you to communicate those opinions to your elected officials - which you did. I want you to hold those elected officials accountable based on their decisions and whether you agree with them or not. And you will...in the next election.

It's called "due process" and it happened in the case of OPKC. I totally support due process therefore I support you and the citizens of TOOP. It's a shame this was not an issue that could be negotiated between the opponents and proponents. Its unfortunate someone had to come out of it unhappy.

I totally feel for you.

As far as being "worthy" of our respect...let me backtrack and say I'm sorry if that's what you got from my blog. It was never my true intention to say we're better than someone who's new to the site.

I find that many people will extrapolate public information and state it as fact when there are nuances for every situation. Case in point, there was a blog thread about property taxes and a blogger used a public person's residence as an example on the blog...only, in reality it wasn't the public person. It was the son of the public person.

If more people took the time to go and talk to the people they are using to prove their point, the blogs would be a kinder, gentler place. It's easy to pull information off the Web, to copy and paste articles into a blank space. It's another to call and interact with the very people you're trying to condemn.

So yes, I called the OP Police Chief. I've called the Chamber. I want direct information from the people I'm affecting with my writing. That's me. And if I held you to my standard, I'm sorry. I just think its effective.

We really are on the same page, Germanfrau.'Nuff said.
