Three Year Old Fishermen

I took my 3 year old, Drew, to visit his ‘Nina’ this weekend in Port St. Joe, FL which is always a treat for them both.  We had a great time relaxing, putting our toes in the sand while eating great gumbo at the Mexico Beach Gumbo Cookoff, and more.  But undoubtedly, one of my son’s favorite activities was fishing with his second cousin, Hunter.  Did they fish at the beach?  No!  At the river, or at one of the other many bodies of water nearby?  No!  My mom recently moved her large goldfish from its’ home in her outdoor pond into an aquarium to keep it safe from the cold temperatures, and Drew had been intrigued by him.  My mom had even shown him and Hunter how to feed him and pulled a chair up so they could see him better.  Then she left the room.  Her mistake!   Lesson:  Two three year olds left alone together will indeed find a way to cause trouble!   A few minutes later my son called “Nina, we made a mess” and she went in to find her table, as well as the boys, covered in water.  My son had even decided to wash his hair!  So they were marched out and sternly scolded by their grandmothers, however harshly grandmothers can scold!  And we resisted laughing.   The fish survived, much thanks to a deep tank, and arms that couldn’t quite reach the bottom.  What a story that will be as they grow, how they went fishing, but didn’t catch a thing but a lot of trouble!
