I'm skipping the introductory stuff and going right to the music. Keep in mind, if you've heard these songs and don't like them, I don't think you're lame or anything, I just don't have the same taste in music you do I guess.
1. Don't call me Whitney, Bobby - The Islands
-One of the catchiest songs I've ever heard that doesn't have any real hook. Just an acoustic guitar, a bass, and if I'm hearing correctly, not even an entire drum kit, just the snare. The lyrics are innocent but mature. I don't really understand the title, but hey, everyone loves a little Whitney Houston/Bobby Brown drama.
2. Boyz N Tha Hood - Dynamite Hack
-An Eclectic music fans dream: An acoustic cover of an NWA song. Word of warning, it is an NWA cover so the language is a little iffy, and if that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea this song isn't really for you. If that sort of thing doesn't offend you, then you should check this out.
3. Plateau - Meat Puppets
-This whole cd is great (Meat Puppets II, for inquring minds) but I'm only reccomending songs today, so Plateau will have to do for now. This song is just fun. If great singing is important to you then the Meat Puppets probably aren't your band, but that never really bothered me, because I really don't think the Meat Puppets would be a better band if they had a better singer. That's important, by the way. Yeah, sometimes if your singer is bad it hurts the band, but there are definitely cases where a better singer would ruin the appeal of a band (See: Nirvana). Meat Puppets are probably the closest thing to country I'm ever going to listen to, so if you're more a county kind of person give the Meat Puppets a try.
4. Game Over - Ozma
-This song has it all for nerds like myself. The whole song is basically one giant analogy of love to video games (I betcha don't know how to find our extra life times 99!...This game is over rated), plus it's got one of the coolest synth lines since The Final Countdown, and a killer solo. Out on the internet there's an acoustic version and a studio version, both are really cool. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that they pull out a Back to the Future line in the song (where we're going, we don't need roads!). They performed at Jack Rabbits in Jacksonville a couple weeks back. Does anyone know where that is? Is that a bar or something?
5. Bird in a Cage - The Old 97's
-I don't really have a lot to say about this song. It's just a lot of fun, I guess. Kind of a mellow rock song. Nothing really stands out as excellent, you just kind of have fun listening to this song. I don't know.
Well, that's it. Five songs. Somewhere in the vein of 15 minutes. 15 excellent minutes. Enjoy.
