Kids dress up like cows for Fleming Island restaurant’s promotion

Some Eagle Harbor people made cows of themselves to get a free lunch.

July 13 was Chick-fil-A’s Cow Appreciation Day to promote “chickin eatin,” the restaurant’s theme. Customers who dressed like a cow got a free combo meal.

The parking lot was full around 1:30 p.m. at the Eagle Harbor location where employees wore faux cowhide hats, aprons and shoes and handed out cow-spotted balloons. Bus loads of day-care children came in painted black and blue.

“The kids seem to like it,” said manager Cary Arnold, who had just cruised the parking lot aboard a Harley Davidson motorcycle with the restaurant’s giant cow mascot waving on the back.

Katherine Proffitt, a Virginia 15-year-old visiting cousins in Fleming Island, sported a black nose and spotted clothes. A poster board that read “Our Herd Loves Chik-fil-A” hung from her neck. The teen, visiting for the summer, said she panicked at first when her aunt told her the family was dressing for lunch, as cows. Then, with relief, she remembered: “I don’t live here, so I don’t care,” she said.
