After 18 months of discussion, Orange Park officials agreed Tuesday night that a green oak tree inside an orange oval will be the logo the town uses for some standardized signage planned for the town.
“It’s simple. It’s not real busy,” said councilman Travis Cummings. “This appears to be what we’re looking for.”
Councilman Pete Morgan agreed it was time to just pick one, after looking at many designs proposed by hired consultant, Fleet & Associates of Mandarin.
“We could sit around till doomsday deciding on a design,” Morgan said.
Next, Fleet & Associates will research sign manufacturers and costs involved for creating various signs for the town’s entrances, streets and public buildings. Cummings hopes the town can get some of Clay County’s tourism funding, derived from bed taxes, to pay for the signage.
At the town’s next council meeting at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7, a public hearing and final vote is scheduled on new law requiring that large groups who use River Road — or any town roads — for a charity run, walk or other event, apply, and pay for, a permit 14 days prior to the event. The permit fee has not yet been determined.
