Although I am a staunch supporter of freedom of speech, it does not stop me from being totally disgusted at the liberties that some take with the freedom.
The other night, as I was waiting to turn onto Blanding Blvd from Branam Field Road, a young man was exercising his FOS by holding up a cardboard sign that said "Clay County Cops are criminals" Okay, I can live with that, he obviously has had different experiences with the CCSO than I have. The thing that made me take a seond look and get pissed off was his TShirt. Yet another conveyance for his much fought for FOS. The TShirt Read : "KILL A COP".
Ticked me right off. This guy was only 100yds from the CC Sherriffs Office Annex. Now, can you imagine a car sitting there at that intersection with a 6-7 yo child of one of the deputies and you have to explain to the young one why this man standing out there wants people to kill his Daddy or Mommy?
Already knowing the answer to my "Isn't there anything anyone can do?" question, I called the Sheriff's office. Nope, i was right. The man is just exercising his freedom of speech. (insert an eyeroll here). Almost makes me want to stand at the opposite corner of the road and exercise my Freedom of speech.
I have a father on the force, been here 23 years. I figure this guy with the t-shirt will need police assistance one day for something and his attitude might change. "To serve and protect" . . . even it it means protecting ungrateful, uneducated folks of clay. This guy that takes the time to get a t-shirt made and stands all around Clay County must not have too much else to do. I wonder if he has a family?
