Jacksonville and Orange Park, Florida will host a group of International students arriving on July 2, 2008 and departing July 29, 2008. The students are coming to our area to improve their English language skills and to experience American family life. EF Educational Homestay Program is looking for short-term host families to welcome these students into their homes. Host families are being asked to provide a bed for the student to sleep in, transportation to and from a designated bus stop in your area, meals and a warm, loving environment for the student to spend their evenings and weekends. During the week, students will attend English classes each morning and field trips each afternoon. The program is supported by round the clock staff and students are fully insured. Many of these students have dreamed their entire life of coming to the United States. They have studied English in school and are eager to spend their summer learning first hand about our family life, culture and community. High School age students of Host Families may earn 60 community service hours toward graduation & scholarship requirements based on your schools acceptance.

The Safe Animal Shelter is in need of items to sell at its yard sale fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 23. Donated items are tax deductible; a receipt will be given at drop-off.
Requested items include gently used infant and children’s clothing, household items, toys, sports equipment, kitchen items, books, knick-knacks and collectibles, as well as movies and music CDs. Large household appliances cannot be accepted.
The yard sale will be held at the Doctors Inlet Civic Center on Peoria Road from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.Item donations may be dropped off at the Shelter on any day of the week except Thursday or Sunday between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Feb. 21. The Shelter is located at 2913 County Road 220, just west of Knight Boxx Road, Middleburg.

Jacksonville and Orange Park, Florida will host a group of International students arriving on July 2, 2008 and departing July 29, 2008. The students are coming to our area to improve their English language skills and to experience American family life. EF Educational Homestay Program is looking for short-term host families to welcome these students into their homes. Host families are being asked to provide a bed for the student to sleep in, transportation to and from a designated bus stop in your area, meals and a warm, loving environment for the student to spend their evenings and weekends. During the week, students will attend English classes each morning and field trips each afternoon. The program is supported by round the clock staff and students are fully insured. Many of these students have dreamed their entire life of coming to the United States. They have studied English in school and are eager to spend their summer learning first hand about our family life, culture and community. High School age students of Host Families may earn 60 community service hours toward graduation & scholarship requirements based on your schools acceptance.

The Clay County site will be held at the Crosby Sanctuary, which is owned by the Duval Audubon Society (serving Clay, Duval and Nassau Counties). The Crosby Sanctuary is an approximately 400-acre nature preserve located west of the North Meadowbrook Terrace subdivision in Orange Park. The address is 427 Aquarius Concourse, Orange Park, FL 32073. The roundup will last from 9:00 AM until noon. LSS offers International Adoptions

 Children all over the world are in need of loving homes. A presentation by Lutheran Social Services of Northeast Florida (LSS) on how the agency can help facilitate the next addition to your family will be held at Cross+Road Lutheran Church, 5091 Lakeshore West (on the corner of Hwy 220 and Lakeshore on Fleming Island), Orange Park, FL 32003, 6 p.m., Thursday, March, 6.
Kelsea Eckert, LSS international adoption coordinator, will be on hand to help answer questions and provide further information.
LSS is a member of the Lutheran Adoption Network (LAN). LAN is a national collaboration of 30 Lutheran social ministry organizations that are active in international adoptions and who are members of Lutheran Services in America. Visit www.lanadopt.org to learn more about LAN.
As a whole, LAN member agencies place thousands of children in caring adoptive homes every year. LSS and LAN provide adoption services to all qualified parents regardless of faith.
As a direct service agency, LSS is the only agency in 11 counties licensed to handle international adoptions and the only member agency of LAN operating in the state of Florida. Due to its affiliation with LAN, LSS is able to help prospective parents adopt children from such countries as: China, Colombia, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Mongolia, Philippines, Russia, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
Anyone interested in international adoptions is invited to attend this free presentation. An additional presentation will be held at and at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1415 S. McDuff Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32205, 6 p.m., Thursday, May 8.
