Shining

Have you guys seen this? If not, prepare to spend the next 4 minutes of your life in absolute wonder (this trailer is only 1:20 long, but you'll watch it at least 3 times.)

Attempt to ban Truck Nutz dies

Because I know you guys were talking about this the other day, here's an update with the Truck Nutz debate.

The AP wrote a beautiful lead sentence for this story-

The Associated Press

A provision in a highway safety bill that would have banned drivers from attaching replica bull testicles to their rear bumpers was snipped from the legislation. The bill will now go to the governor’s desk.

Sen. Carey Baker, R-Eustis, had sponsored the amendment that would have allowed police to give drivers a $60 ticket for displaying the dangling decorations.

Clay County Teacher of the Year

Just in case you guys didn't see this, here's a link to the Times-Union story story about Kimberly Miskowski, media specialist at Coppergate Elementary School, and winner of Teacher of the Year

One-year anniversary of MCS.com!

Can you believe it's been a year?

February 15th 2007 was the first official day of MyClaySun.com. It was the first day we opened this site to you guys, and the first day of the re-designed paper.

We had about 1,200 people come here that first day, and about 6,000 hits within 24 hours.

Since then, we've piled on more than 2,000,000 page views, hundreds of thousands of visitors and almost 2,000 registered users. There have been 1,580 blogs written, which, divided by 365, comes out to over 4 new blogs every single day. I would give the number of comments, but the system doesn't count those, and there's no way I could hand-count each. I'm sure we'd all agree that there are thousands and thousands.

Procedures on MyClaySun.com

Good morning, all-

We have spent a considerable amount of time discussing how things are progressing here on MyClaySun.com, and I want to let you know what we have decided.

There seem to be two main issues interrupting the normally constructive tone. One is the issue of one person with multiple screen names, and the other is users who have joined the site and aired their grievances without otherwise contributing in a positive manner.

This is how we will begin to approach these issues. One person with multiple screen names on MyClaySun.com is not prohibited by the terms of service. However, you are required to enter and maintain accurate personal information when you create a screen name, and starting today, we will be monitoring the accounts of users on the site whom we feel might have violated the following portion of the Terms of Service:

"You must provide and maintain accurate personal information in your account record."

Community Links

Just for you guys, we have a Community Links page here on MyClaySun.com. It's in the attempt to gather all of the important and necessary elements of Clay County in one place.

While the list is far from complete, it does have some basic Clay County links, including links to the Sheriff's Office, County Commissioners, School district and more.

It also has one very interesting link, which is a live traffic report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

However, in order to make the list as comprehensive as possible, feel free to comment on this blog and let us know what links you would like to see included. Please keep the links relative to Clay County, and of course, we will moderate what links make it to the list.

Finish this sentence: Christmas is....

So how does the Christmas season make you feel? Of course, if you just got back from sitting on Blanding and 295, you might be wildly jaded, but even so, let us know!

Just post a comment finishing the sentence. I'll get started...

Sex offender database

We now have a searchable sex offender database here on MyClaySun.com. You can search by zip code, county, city and even whether the person is a sexual offender or sexual predator.

The results will show you the offender's picture, current address and other information. The results will also be plotted on a map.

All information in our database is from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, but if you have any questions about how to use the database, feel free to comment on this blog and ask me.

You will find it by hovering your mouse over the "News" tab in the black menu bar up top, or you can click here:

Christmas tree - real or artificial?

My family always had a real Christmas tree - no exceptions.

Sure, real trees can be a bit of a pain, but they always make for good memories. For starters, my family is from Pennsylvania. My mother and father moved to Greenville, South Carolina, right before I was born. In our part of PA, the tradition is to put your tree up the week leading up to Christmas Eve. In our part of SC, it seems like the tree has to be up Thanksgiving afternoon.

That being said, we were always the transplanted (no pun intended) Yankees standing at the Christmas tree farm 3 days before Christmas Eve. Of course, all the great/good/decent/still living trees has been chosen already, and we often settled for a very "Charlie Brown" sort of thing.

Date and Time

All-

Thanks to the sharp eyes of one MCS blogger, the time stamp of this site has been corrected. For some reason, MCS.com didn't auto-adjust for Daylight Savings Time.

It's fixed now!
