Governors Park

Anybody read the article on Governors Park today?

How does the developer of Governors Park know the first section of the Beltway will be complete in 2012? Sounds like the developers are privy to information not yet made known to the public. Last I heard, there was no money slated for this project and foreign investors were being courted (so the thing will be built before 2035).

What else is going to pop up in the path of the proposed Outer Beltway? Governors Park just lends credit to my belief that people with deep pockets (and stand to profit financially) are influencing the Outer Beltway project for sheer personal gain. I am not saying powerful influential people shouldn't be able to voice their desires and pursue profit. It just feels like these people may have more access to decision-makers and information than the general public.

Adult Athletic Leagues: Flag Football, Ultimate anyone?

Does anyone know of any flag football or ultimate frisbee teams for adults in Clay County? I love playing ultimate - it works practically every muscle in the body and is a great team sport! My St. John's County/Duval friends play on a women's flag football team and have invited me to join, but my family couldn't tolerate my absence for the 45 minute drive there, the game, and the 45 minute return drive from Roberts Rd. on a twice weekly basis. I am not aware of similar leagues on the this side of the Buckman/Shands. Googling Clay County and adult athletic teams yielded no results. No luck with Clay County and Ultimate Frisbee either.

Stop the Mean and Crude Slander

I have enjoyed writing and debating folks on this site but have been bothered by people's lack of civility and kindness toward people with whom they disagree. I have been passionate myself when responding to folks about religion and politics, so I understand the temptation to get angry! While everyone here has the right to say whatever they want, no one wins when discussion becomes trash talking, potty mouthed jargon. Blogging is the modern public forum. Where else can you freely talk about these issues? Let's keep our talk beneficial. The more useful and polite the discussion, the more people will feel welcome to join the conversation.

St Johns River Crossing

I have watched the news coverage of the proposed 495 with great interest. Did anyone else notice the Pink route was selected before they announced the free Shands Bridge would be eliminated? I was a supporter of the Purple/Black routes, because I've always thought that having two places to cross the River is better than simply having one. More roads, bridges, and choices, less drivers congested in one spot.

It was also interesting to note that the Pink/Brown routes were very similar and the Purple/Black ones were alike. The FDOT claimed the pink route garnered the most community support, but if you looked at their numbers comparing the Southerly routes (Pink/Brown) to the Northern Routes (purple/black), the Northern routes were cummulatively more popular. I think the Black route got the least support from the state because it was the most expensive. But, if you looked at the number or road miles you were getting for the price, it looked like the best value. And, most importantly, it connected 495 directly into 95.

Ominous Activity: What to do?

What do you do when you suspect a drug deal is going down? Any Clay County cops have any recs or suggestions?
Is there a "right" thing to do if you suspect a drug deal other than run and get the heck out of dodge? This is Clay County, right? I thought all the criminal activity took place on Wells Road near the mall!
