Grizelda's blogLocal sleeze
The current article in Folio Weekly is not a surprise to those who know the Taylor boys. Adam's violent and arrogant nature demonstrates a pattern since the age of 11. The hazing incident is also of a sexual nature, even though both parties involved were male. I predict that this will not be the last we hear of this young man and the legal system. Here we have someone running for sheriff, the head of law enforcement for Clay County, who cannot police his own family. The recent mail-out showed the same arrogance and disregard for others that we see in Mr. Taylor's children. Hmmm, it seems the acorn doesn't fall far from the tree. Hazing incident - Where was the supervision?
My question would be, "Where were the coaches (teachers) while this incident was occurring?" If this had happened under any other teacher's watch, he/she would have been fired. I know a teacher who were told that they were in their first year of teaching and could be fired for any reason, "even if I just don't like the way you look." Then this teacher WAS fired. Another was threatened because it seemed to Mr. Ward that he had a negative attitude. He wasn't satisfied with the status-quo. The coaches at FIHS and admittedly at most schools walk on water. They can teach little of their curriculum, show inappropriate movies, allow inappropriate behavior (cursing, iPods, cell phones, etc.) and its ok. But let an administrator (Big Brother) walk into a lowly academic classroom and find any of these offenses, and the teacher is called on the carpet for a reprimand. FIH teacher....A Day in the Life....
First, congratulations are in order. Our Golden Eagles defeated Bishop Kenny 17 - 14. Go Eagles! Now, let me vent a little about the daily life of a high school teacher in Clay County. There are no empty classrooms in our school ANY period. We have teachers who do not have classrooms to call their own. They push or pull a cart, or drag a large cumbersome bag all over the school. It wouldn't be too bad if they were just going a few steps down the hallway, but several are going all over the school, all the while expected to greet their students at the door, have their word wall visible, their objective on the board, the Sunshine State Standards posted, AND the bell activity projected on the screen or written on the board. We must also make sure that our room is "print-rich" with charts, graphs, and informative posters present in our rooms (if we have one.) Teacher's Response - Fact about FIH t-shirt protest
Teacher's Response - Nothing to do with dress code! Submitted by Grizelda on Sun, 09/30/2007 - 9:52am. I teach at Fleming Island High School. This protest had NOTHING to do with the very reasonable dress code. The focus was new gates installed in and around the gym. The gates will cut down on the number of thefts from gym lockers and also the numerous incidents of students leaving campus for lunch.
