Sunflower's blogCitizen Initiatives Amendments - Please Help Defend Our Voting Rights
All of the Citizen Initiative Proposed amendments are now listed on the Supervisor of Elections website. You can view them at http://www.clayelections.com/Amendments.html. Please take a look and read the clearly stated proposals to the Clay County charter changes. There are some who do not want you to have the opportunity to vote YES or NO on these amendments and have filed a lawsuit to keep them off the ballot. Please tell the obstructionists that you want to have the democratic opportunity to vote YES or NO on these amendments. Help the CTLAC defend our First Amendment rights and find out how at www.CTLAC.com. CTLAC Needs Your Help - and SOON!!
It seems the Citizens for Term Limits & Accountability Committee’s (CTLAC) need for counsel – and soon – in order to protect our First Amendment rights has taken a back seat to other blogs. So, I’m bringing it to the forefront since only 7 days are remaining until the CTLAC must defend the right in court to have these amendments on November’s ballot for voters to choose Yes or No!. While all the other blog topics certainly have merit and need to be addressed, the deadline for helping the CTLAC is near. School Superintendent Candidate Forum
Soon Clay voters will make one of their most crucial decisions in 4 years…They will decide who leads our schools: Steven Richards, Patrick Thurman, or Ben Wortham. Clay Action Network (CAN) invites you to a FORUM for School Superintendent Candidates. Each candidate will answer questions about their background, their goals for Clay County schools, and their strategy to achieve them. Life's Choices
I like choices in my life – even with essential purchases (food, fuel, shelter, etc.) I can choose where and what to spend my money on. Taxes – not so much. I also like to choose my candidate at the polls, but unless the amendment to remove the two at-large commissioner seats is on the ballot, we have no options and will have a chairperson by default as the candidate is running unopposed. So, what choices do the voters actually have? If the amendment IS on the ballot, then we’ll have the option to either vote Yes for the only candidate, or YES for the amendment to remove the two at-large commissioner positions. Water and Earth Matters
Good afternoon! Thank you all so very much for your interest and participation in my blog from yesterday. I’ve been painting and thinking again, so here’s another topic that is near and dear (to us and millions of others) – water conservation and preserving our safe drinking water. There are many things we can do on a daily basis, each one of us, to assist in this important matter. Interests, Expertise and Favorite Things
Good Afternoon: Marsha's suggestion for new topics is well received, at least by me, so thought I'd start a new topic for discussion. I have taken on the project of painting the entire interior of our home, including all of the woodwork which was previously stained a shade of "could be" (could be oak, could be maple, etc.). Anyway, I am painting it all white and have undertaken the chore of painting the French doors (2 of them, 2 front and back = 60 panes of glass to paint around). While it's very tedious and time consuming, it gives me time to think of other things, so I don't mind doing it and have music to work by playing in the background and on this beautiful day, all of the windows are wide open! Devil Grass
Finally, the St. Johns River Water Management District is making a statement about St. Augustine grass and the evils of the stuff. Here's a link to the article in the St. Augustine Record of yesterday, 11/25/07. It's not hard to let it go, the grass that is. Read the article in full and encourage your HOAs if you have one, to allow alternatives. It is sinful to keep using 64% of residential water for irrigation. http://staugustine.com/stories/112507/news_017.shtml There are many other websites which promote the use of native plants here in beautiful, sunny Florida. www.FNPS.org (Florida Native Plant Society), and many more. Just do a search and let me know if you have any questions. I am familiar with most of the organizations and sources. Lighter Side - Favorite Movies!!
MCS bloggers! We all need moments of "something other than reality". Last night I watched an old movie on TCM and it was refreshing to put myself back into my childhood for a couple of hours and not think about the overwhelming life of today. I would bet (not at the OPKC however) but just here amongst ourselves, that we all have a favorite movie or two or three. If you could view your absolute favorite movies at the perfect venue (drive in, Jax beach outside theatre, home) - which would they be and where would you prefer to watch - and with whom? This is not a test - just thought I'd start a lighter thread (and help us get to know each other even more). Introduction
Hello Everyone. I've been reading MCS almost from the beginning, and finally decided to play an active role in the discussions with my focus being on the environment, conservation, living 'green', political climate, CC infrastructure and what our elected officials (local, state, national) are doing for the betterment of our daily lives. I enjoy reading many of your thoughts and am impressed by the contributions made by MCS bloggers. I am learning a lot about the 'goings on' in my county and appreciate all the information. It is 7:30 p.m. and my husband just arrived home from work in Jacksonville, after another very long drive to our home on CR 220, so I will join him in a late dinner. More later.
