Citizens Petition Intiative Under Scrutiny by the CRC........AGAIN

The meeting has been moved up to 6:30pm.  Don't use the agenda as an English lesson for your children.

Lets see, we've had Bill Garrison tell them it should be changed, we have had the SOE wanting it to be changed, and now they're going to discuss what the last CRC wanted to do and hopes they'll take it on now.

Perhaps this should be called the Citizens Petition Intiative Review Commission rather then the Charter Review Commission.

They not only want to change it to a percentage of the registerd electorate rather then base it on a percentage of how many people voted in the election.  They also want it to be changed to where there will have to be at least 2% from each District.  Is that because the BCC appears to service only 2% of the voters in their District?

Durwood Smith's Comments

Perhaps Durwood's comments concerning transporting our trash to Georgia, for which he was so soundly chastised, were a LOT closer to right than even he thought.

Read the story for yourself and come to your own conclusions.

Reply to ex-oficio's "What the CRC should do"

Ex:

If I correctly understand your proposal regarding a publicly-elected executive to oversee the expenditures of the publicly-elected BCC, the net effect would be this:

1. Elect a (new?) politician to oversee other (existing) politicians!

2. Create a new line-item in the county budget for a newly-elected position.

The above two effects are logically dependent on some obvious assumptions on your part, to-wit:

1. You must assume in advance that the newly elected politician-comptroller won't be beholden to the same sources of campaign contributions that the BCC depends on for winning races.

The Perpetuation of A4 Myths by the BCC

In the last two BCC meetings I have watched Wendell Davis speak untruths, even once the truth was pointed out to him yesterday he still made insinuations that are not based in fact.  This report he has referred to in BCC meetings and in print media is located within the Florida Realtors site, no suprise there and here it ishttp://www.florida2010.org/docs/20100121_Amendment4_Impact_Scenario.pdf.

Note that it is a "scenario", not a study.  Now. before you go look at the 34 page scenario with all of it's graphs and charts you need to look into just who the group is, "Washington Economics Group Inc" located at 2655 Le Jeune Rd Suite 608 in Coral Gables which is Dade County.

Trading penny stocks can make you a beggar

People generally think that one can make million by trading penny stocks. But this statement may not be true of all. Instances are there people lose their main capital in trading this. Particularly beginners are prone to this risk. Caution is must required before investing.  People are attracted due to low share prices. But things are usually not what they seem to be.

Besides they are no such instances of people making million in trading penny stocks. It may be that investors first trade penny stocks to get acquainted with the stock markets. After getting deep knowledge, they may be investing in big cap markets.

Alcohol Sales and the Charter

In recent months, there has been a lot of discussion about the hours you can purchase alcohol in Clay County. You cannot buy an alcoholic beverage before 2:00 p.m. on Sunday because of a local ordinance that says:

Sec. 3-2.  Hours of sale and consumption.(a)   The sale of alcoholic beverages at any time by any person other than as authorized by this section is prohibited.(b)   Except as provided in subsections (c) and (d), the sale of alcoholic beverages within the unincorporated areas of the county, is authorized to commence on every day except Sunday, at 7:00 a.m. and continue until 2:00 a.m. of the following day, and on Sunday may commence at 2:00 p.m. and shall continue until 12:00 p.m.(c)   An exception to the above stated hours of sale shall be that no alcoholic beverages shall be sold on Christmas Day until the regular authorized opening sale time on December 26. The intention of this subsection is that no alcoholic beverages be sold during Christmas Day and Christmas night of each year.(d)   A further exception to the authorized hours of sale of alcoholic beverages as set out in subsection (b) is that on the thirty-first day of December, or the day commonly known as "New Year's Eve" the sale of alcoholic beverages is authorized to continue until 2:00 a.m. of the following day.(e)   With respect to places wherein the sale of alcoholic beverages is permitted for on-premises consumption, such consumption shall be prohibited during the same times that sales are prohibited, except for the thirty-minute period immediately following the designated time that sales must cease.

If the straw poll ballot where a majority of electors voted to change the hours did not convince the BCC to consider changing the hours, it is unlikely they will propose changing the hours at the request of various business interests. But, if a motivated group were so inclined, there is another possible solution.

Bye Bye Republican Party

I received my new voters registration card a couple of days ago.  John Thrasher going back to Tallahassee was enough to push me over the edge.

This isn't so much against the Republican Party itself, if it were I would have gone Democrat but I didn't. However make no mistake there are alot of aspects about the local Republican Party that is revolting to me personally. What started my thinking this way is watching former CRC people taking amendments to court just to get their way.  Having petition gatherers run off from places where they used to be able to get signatures for years with no problem. Dirty tricks.

Growing dependence on government spreads in US

The respected Heritage Foundation has some interesting observations about recent welfare adjustments and the disturbing trends they portend.  You can find the full article - free - on their website.  Google The Heritage Foundation and you'll find it.

"Despite the famed 1996 Welfare Reform Act and the more recent welfare adjustments in 2006, 60.8 million Americans remain dependent on the government for their daily housing, food, and health care. The number of taxpayers is shrinking—and the country may be rapidly approaching the point where more than one-third of Americans do not pay taxes for benefits they receive. In February 2009, the Democrat-controlled Congress and the new Obama Administration may have driven the final stake into the heart of any semblance of fiscal responsibility when they enacted the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act — essentially overturning the fiscal foundation of welfare reform.Starting in 2016, Social Security will not collect enough in taxes to pay all of the promised benefits— which is a problem for all workers, but especially for the roughly half of the American workforce that has no other retirement program.

My Clay Sun updates

Hello all-

I'm back, after a plenty long absence. Since it's been so long, I have a bit of explaining to do. First off, let's talk about the spammers.

The biggest problem has to do with the age of MyClaySun.com. The software running this site is now 3 years old (yes, it's been 3 years since MCS launched) and that allows for all sorts of new bug and spammers to get into the system. It's a lot like our home computer. You know how they say to upgrade your antivirus every few months?

MyClaySun.com is in that position - it's been 3 years since we've upgraded our antivirus.
